POLICIES
Performance
- Studying theatre is studying what it means to be human.
- Storytelling connects us to our past, to our future, and to each other, and theatre tells stories by allowing the artist and the audience to be active participants.
- Performance gives students confidence, self-awareness, and self-expression through learning about body, voice, and imagination.
- If we can imagine what it is like to be someone else, we can then be empathetic to others, a vital skill in our rapidly growing global community.
- Theatre allows us to be part of something larger than ourselves, and through theatre, we share stories that educate, entertain, and inspire us to be better consumers and contributors to our world.

POLICIES
- Grading:
- Performances will have two grades in HAC, a participation grade and a performance grade
Participation - This grade goes toward the six-week average.
- Graded on a scale of 1-100%.
- It is based on full participation and your students’ best effort.
- Points are deducted for the following: part or all of the assignment is missing or refusal to perform in front of a full audience.
Performance
- This grade does not go toward the six-week average.
- Graded on a scale of 1-3. 1—Beginner| 2—Intermediate | 3—Advanced
- This grade is based on the students’ comprehension and execution of the assignment.
- Points are added and deducted based on the requirements for the specific assignment.
- You will be able to see both grades in HAC, but only the participation grades will counted for the final six-week grade. In this way, I can encourage a growth mindset for students while still providing data-based feedback of students’ abilities.
- Theatre Isn’t Fair: I promise to treat you and grade you fairly in class, but not everyone will get the leading role in every scene or play. Sometimes we're Juliet, sometimes we're the tree.
- Behavior: Failure to comply with expectations may result in the following:
- Reminder: A verbal reminder of my expectations
- Removal: Physical removal from our activity to watch and learn expectations
- Rejoin: Rejoining the group with a reminder of desirable behavior.
- Review: Short private chat with the student to ask questions and clarify expectations
- Reach out: If your student and I are unable to solve problems together, I may reach out to parents, guardians, or other teachers for guidance and support.
