"Give these kids and me the brand new century and watch what happens."

Educating students through inspiration and performance.
My name is Blake Lentz, and I love teaching your students. I am a proud graduate of TCU, where I earned a B.F.A. in theatre. After college, I worked for Amphibian Stage Productions in Fort Worth before I realized that grown-ups are lame and kids are awesome. I then went to UNT for my M.Ed., and spent a year at Hermleigh ISD teaching high school theatre. We moved back to the city in 2013, and I have been working at BCI ever since!
I am married to Aaron Lentz, who is a part-time professional lighting designer (and a full-time security consultant), and we adore our dog, Skywalker, who does not adore the costumes we make her wear on occasion. I am a huge fan of being a fan; I love Harry Potter, Disney, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harrison Ford, etc. I LOVE reading (see my book list), but I don't disparage movies or TV shows (have you SEEN Once Upon a Time?!?). I wear crazy costumes and I love getting excited about the things that I love. If your students only learn one thing from me, I hope it is that it's okay to be unironically enthusiastic about the things that they love. See the following quote from John Green: "Nerds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff. Nerds are allowed to love stuff--like, jump-up-and-down-in-your-chair-can't-control-yourself love it. When people call people nerds, mostly what they're saying is, 'You like stuff,' which is not a good insult at all. Like, 'You are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness.'" |
Other quotes that inspire me:
"Your life is an occasion. Rise to it."
-Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium-
"I believe the storybooks I read by candlelight."
-Shrek the Musical-
"A doctor is good in proportion to how well he can help his patients to recover their health. A theatre person is good in proportion to the inspiration, amusement, beauty, and education he can give to others."
-Margo Jones-
"What more do you want to know?"
"The names of all the stars, and of all living things, and the whole history of Middle-earth and Over-heaven and the Sundering Seas," laughed Pippin. "Of course! What less? But I am not in a hurry tonight."
-J.R.R. Tolkien-
"And when my time is up, have I done enough?"
